Drug Pouch

Part of a Covert Agent’s role is to occasionally remove an impediment to SHIELDs Operations through assassination, or to compel a subject to talk without resorting to any form of enhanced interrogation techniques. For this reason, SHIELD provides such agents with a drug pouch which is normally carried under their Covert Uniform and consists of two drugs and two defenses.

The first Drug is a highly concentrated dose of Sodium Pentathol, also known as Truth Serum. This drug wears down a subjects self control, making them more inclined to be able to be manipulated by a charismatic Agent. Q BRANCH had worked hard to ensure there is little to no Overdose chance, even with small-framed beings.

The second drug is less friendly, and consists of a Slow Acting Lethal Poison in liquid form, meant to be administered into food or drink and consumed by the target. The toxin, originally a venom taken from the Australian Funnelweb Spider and manipulated in a genetics lab, initially shows no outward evidence of having been administered. After a one hour incubation period things move quickly; over the next five minutes, the subject experiences goose bumps, sweating, tingling around the mouth and tongue, twitching (initially facial and intercostal), salivation, watery eyes, elevated heart rate, and elevated blood pressure. As the toxin progresses through the targets system, they experience nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath (caused by airway obstruction), agitation, confusion, writhing, grimacing, muscle spasms, pulmonary oedema (of neurogenic or hypertensive origin), metabolic acidosis, and extreme hypertension. The final stages of the toxin, occurring approximately 5 minutes after onset are dilation of the pupils (often fixed), uncontrolled generalised muscle twitching, unconsciousness, elevated intracranial pressure, and death. Death generally is a result of progressive hypotension or possibly elevated intracranial pressure consequent on cerebral oedema. All in all this is not a very pleasant death, and none but the most resillient beings can survive the toxin.

Q BRANCH realises, however, that agents are human, and as such, when dealing with contact/consumed poisons, might spill it onto themselves, or bring a contaminated glove up to their eyes, nose or mouth (or unprotected skin). Therefore the pouch also contains a few pill-form doses of the antidote to the poison, with an effaciacy of one week from consumption.

If the Agent suspects that their opponents may capture them and subject them to similar Truth Serum interrogations, there is also pills to provide a level of resistance to both Standard, and SHIELD modified Sodium Pentathol. This also has an effaciacy of one week from consumption.
